The Muppets!

For my Birthday this year I took my nephew to see The Muppets. I must admit that I don't remember alot about the muppets. I vaguely remember watching the muppet babies and I had this amazingly awesome Muppets Commadore 64 game, but I don't remember the movies.
With that being said... I really liked it. All the cameo appearances were great and it was fun to pick the people out. I think that its a good movie for the whole family, Silly stuff for the kids while still having jokes for the adults. Mild spoiler here** I was very amused with the Jimmy Carter reference.

Another Lame-o scary movie

Tis the season for crappy horror movies. We recently watched Session 9. Apparently Shy and I have come to an unspoken agreement to watch a movie before the new episode sunday nights of Walking Dead (short plug here, so far really digging walking dead, season one is out on video with only 6 ep so its easy to check out). Unfortunately the agreement seems to be just scary movies.
We had a rocky start with Session 9. Netflix played it for us but not with the sound anywhere near when people were actually talking. Luckily Amazon had it on instant watch (possibly unluckily, it was lame) I will sum it up quickly, crazy man killing everyone without noticing that he is doing it and that if we let the evil voice in it will help with the crazy.
There is nothing i could say to make this movie interesting. It just dragged on and on and on, like a zombie that won't die. Speaking of Zombies, Walking dead, tell your friends.
*What how did this picture get here :)*

Oops

So Apparently the couple updates done from my phone, never actually updated. So Sorry. With Wintereen coming up There should be actually some real updates. I admit though part of the delay comes from my 55 hour work weeks and the fact that my hp computer is a piece of crap. (word to the wise never get an Hp.. Ever)

Anyways Short update. Tonight we knocked out a classic and horror movie in the name of the Halloween Weekend. The Exorcist! I can sum this up easily. While yes, it is considered a classic so it is important that I finally watched it, I was bored. It had a few creepy moments, the girl was gross and creepy. It took FOREVER to get anywhere. and **spoiler Alert*** It had what every 70 and 80's horror movie. Green goo, demons, heads spinning, death and like every demon movie the priest at the end can't handle the pressure and asks the demon to take him instead and DIES.

If it wasn't for watching the Tv show Walking Dead, the night could have been a bust :)

*also no pictures, no one wants to see that

Jane Eyre

Admittedly, i should have written this ages ago when the movie was fresh in my mind. But I was so disappointed at the time that I didn't feel like writing anything about it. I think I might give it another chance in a couple months though.
So the new movie... Jane wasn't plain enough for me. I felt the red room wasn't played out right. The whole thing with StJohn stank, like alot. Most importantly I didn't feel for mr Rochester. I have this new quest to find a good Jane Eyre addition. When I find this great addition I will work on posting it right away. I hope its not a lost cause like Persuasion. I have seen every Persuasion out there and they all suck

This week will be a post on the last Harry Potter

Gnomeo and Juliet

Basic run down of the movie is probably an easy guess. Its Romeo and Juliet, made funny, featured by garden gnomes. So the Gnomes are the garden statues of neighboring gardens of Montague and Capulet. For unknown reasons the Gnome's have been war ing for all time. Easy plot right?
Anyways I wasn't thrilled and often found myself bored. I will fully admit that part of this probably comes from the fact that I really really dislike the story of Romeo and Juliet. First there is all the hype and 15 year old girls gush over it, without really understanding the plot. Yes prejudice is wrong, don't fight for no reason and don't blindly hate people. But NO people this is not a romantic story, it's about horny teens. People never remember that the whole reason Romeo was at the party where he met Juliet was because his friends took him to get over is greatest love.. you know whats her name that no one remembers because they don't pay attention (her name is Rosaline). It bugs me.
Back to our Gnomes.. It had some funny parts but It probably would have made a better short then actual movie. So watch the trailer, have a laugh and then go watch a good movie.

MIA

So Oops! Apparently I missed the entire month of May.. and half of June. I can't really give a good excuse. I have been crazy busy with the new job. Plus my blog has been a bit of a let down, I just don't have that writing skill I once had. Plus for those of you that know me, I'm much better in person.
Anyways, Beastly, Jane Eyre and Gnomeo and Juliet coming soon to a blog near... um.. here

Lincoln Lawyer

So I have been sitting on this movie for a while. I know I have very much been slacking on my writing goals. I use to find writing so much easier when I was younger. Apparently it isn't like riding a bike, it can be forgotten.. Anyways
Lincoln Lawyer. The Lincoln lawyer is about a LA defense lawyer Mick, that is often on the go and conducting business in the back set of his Lincoln car. He ends up trying to defend a rich pretty boy, real estate agent accused of attacking a woman, raping her and basically beating the tar out of her.
I liked it. While yes a few things in the movie were predictable, I found it over all easy to get sucked into. I liked the ethical problems that he came up against and the struggle to do the right thing. It was serious while still having humor. I would recommend it.

***Spoiler Alert***
Don't read further unless you have seen the movie or don't care if it is ruined for you
I did find making Frank Levin in the movie homosexual just not necessary. It didn't have anything to do with the story. We never met his partner, it had nothing to do with him being a good detective or not. Plus he wasn't killed from a hate crime, so why mention it?
Also I felt they needed to explain more with the Roulet family. So the mom was raped, like four years before and that's why her son carried a knife. Why would he go around raping and beating people after he was so 'horrified' by his mother's experience. The only thing I can figure is that they came up with the story as a sympathy card to throw suspension off the kid. Well thats my thoughts on it anyways.

Tangled

Ok so I have to admit I will always be a bit of a kid at heart and I do enjoy a good old fashion Disney. There is something enchanting to Belle coming down the staircase to the Beast (just saying he is way better looking as Beast then when he goes all human again), Aurora dancing in the forest or Omegra being all snarky with Hercules.
Tangled is of course the retelling of Rapunzel. More and more movies these days are adding a little more girl power then some of the original stories had, but who can complain about that. In this version the Hair is magical, the tower is still there but she longs to leave the towers to go on a small adventure. Enter the dashing thief that climbs the tower to hide from the law.
I have to say, I loved the film! I took the niece and nephew, we had a blast. I actually have already pre-ordered the movie (it comes out later this month). It had girl power, it had fighting and humor, and in the end most people have a mildly happy ending. Plus it had some great, randomly quotable dialogue
In conclusion.. Go see it, take a kid if it makes you feel better. But its a good movie.

Sidebar: The ending to Beauty and the Beast is not listed above as a spoiler because, lets face it, if you didn't know that already you probably live under a rock, and shouldn't have internet service. Just sayin

I am Number Four

I am Number Four, is a movie about a kid John who is really an alien with slowly developing special powers. There are Nine Aliens all together, spread out hiding from the Scary evil aliens that are killing them in number order (they are each designated by number).
This movie like many others is based off a book. For once I haven't read the book first, so there is no fear of me whining about how yet again they ruined a perfectly good book.
I have heard many reviews about this movie and how it stank up a storm. I actually rather liked it. Timothy Olyphant might have something to do with that (star of Justified, watch it and thank me later). I'm not saying its going to win an oscar, but i did find myself drawn in and curious about where the story will go next.
Its fun, go for it!

The Rite

Yeah I know it has been ages, but in my defense after seeing the Rite I got the flu. It was terrible, and i didn't want to think about any movies for a long time. Of course then I had the guilt for not keeping up on my goal of posting, so that too delayed it. But without further ado...
The Rite! The movie is about a troubled seminary student Michael that comes from a family of undertakers. Michael is sent to Italy to take a course on excorcism, where he meets Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins). In the end Father Lucas becomes possessed and Michael has to attempt an exorcism despite his lack of belief.
While I will admit that Anthony Hopkins does creepy really well. The film was over all a let down. I like to judge a scary movie by how creep-ed out I am after the fact. I have flashes of scary movies in my head going back to early childhood. I thought nothing more about this film from the moment I walked out of the theater. Plus there was this tacky scene towards the end when Father Lucas's face goes all blackened and demon like, it was soo lame.
Final Verdict.. Don't bother go rent a classic horror

The Holiday and the Duchess

Ok another sappy love story type movie. I have to say i hate Jack Black, i find him annoying but I really enjoyed him in this film. He's sweet, nice and a little geeky. We know how i feel about geeks. I think the main appeal to the movie is the little old next door neighbor Arthur, with his old movies and style. Not only do they discuss great old movies, but one point in time Iris is very clearly watching Cary Grant in His Girl Friday. I feel a His Girl Friday review coming on very soon. Back to the current movie though. Besides the fact I am creeped out by the thought of letting a complete stranger live in your house and you in there (screams serial killer), I find a slight charm to the movie.

The Duchess.
This weekend Ash and i decided to watch The Duchess, mostly because I like Historical Fiction and because I picked it up super cheap. I suppose over all its not a bad film. I find myself really wanting to find the book on the real story, Hollywood often adds unnecessary crap to dramatize everything. I will warn a head of time, she is raped at one point in time by her husband. Like many stories of women from this time period it is rather sad and oppressive. I have always found it rather amusing that people always blamed the female for not baring a son, especially since science has proven it is all on the male. (ha ha losers). Anyways it is rather a sad story of a girl that is married off to a duke that doesn't overly care for her and constantly has affairs while keeping her home by threatening the loss of her children. I didn't hate it, didn't love it, I might have more to say on it once I read up on the real story.

Sphere

Sphere is a movie that came out in 1998 about a spaceship that is discovered at the bottom of the ocean with 300 years of coral growth around it. A group of scientists, mathematicians, navy divers and a psychiatrist are sent down to check out the ship and look for alien life.
We decided to watch this tonight because I haven't seen it and Shy really likes the film. It didn't overly thrill me, in the end i found it rather lacking. Overall it wasn't a bad, i just wouldn't watch it over and over again. Its a one and done. I found it rather easy to pick apart and I was never drawn into the storyline.
**Spoilers**
The secret between Beth and Norman that they had a thing years before was just non thrilling and not a surprise.
The translation they came up with the translate the entity speaking to them through the computer was lame. A. they were able to translate way too quickly, B. when the entity's name was found wrong, all the translations would have been wrong not one letter.. Lame.
The fact that Harry had to be sleeping early on for the 'bad' things to be happening, but during the climax he was awake and freaking out was inconsistent.
Towards the end, when they are in the mini sub trying to escape but think they are some where else, why didn't that ever happen before.
At the end, how is it they can suddenly control this 'power' to remove the knowledge from their minds. Also just because they don't know they have manifestations doesn't mean they will go away.
Yea the little things are important and they bug me and only leave me with questions.

The Kings Speech

So tonight I went to see the Kings Speech. Many of you have heard about it because of recent awards it has won or been nominated for. It of course is the story of King George VI and the man who helped him over come his speech impediment. King George the VI (known as Bertie) is the Current Queen Elizabeth's father.
I have to say, the awards are well deserved. It was an Amazing movie. I really enjoy historical movies anyways because I find it all very fascinating, especially WW2 era things. Bertie was the King during WW2. Bertie is played by Colin Firth, who did a spectacular job as Bertie. I can't imagine doing an entire movie with a debilitation Speech impediment, but he did. I could feel the stress and social anxiety coming from Bertie throughout the movie. Bertie's older brother David was of course in the film and it didn't bother me at all that they didn't stress the fact that David was a Nazi sympathizer.
In short, you must see this movie it had a fantastic cast. Also fun fact, both Actress/actors that played Bertie's wife Elizabeth and the man who played Winston Churchhill and King George V all acted in Harry Potter movies. Ok might only be a fun fact for me.

Dear movies, I can explain! So I'm sure people have noticed the lack of movies posted lately. I have not decided to mend my addicted movie ways. I have just been watching the last 3 seasons of big bang theory.. I have to say I love that show. It makes me giggle often and the added guest appearance of wil wheaton only adds more good things to each episode. Plus for those of you that some how live under a rock and don't know about firefly, this would make no sense to you but I love the random firefly references. So in closing, watch firefly or die a boring life then watch big bang theory it is also enjoyable

Remains of the Day

So Remains of the Day came out back in 93, but I hadn't gotten the chance to watch it until this past weekend. I was warned ahead of time that it is an extremely sad stories. It is the story of a Butler (Anthony Hopkins) that sacrifices everything in service, pre and post world war 2 and realizes to late all that he has missed.
While the story is sad, it is extremely well done. Of course I did already mention Anthony Hopkins, so it is bound to be good ( I plan to over look that whole Wolfman movie, it didn't happen, he can't be blamed). His Character Mr. Stevens was endearing while being completely stressful to watch because I felt he wasn't socially able to interact properly with people around him. Actually he could be endearing because he reminds me of an ex-boyfriend.
Also in the film was Emma Thompson who played the housekeeper. She plays opposite Hopkins well and i enjoyed their interaction. **Spoiler alert*** There is no happy ending, which is why I probably enjoyed it so much. I recommend it for a nice quiet evening, not one where you are looking for warm fuzzy feelings.

Leatherheads

This post might end up looking a little off and it won't have super cool
pictures because I'm actually posting from my phone. So lets cross our
fingers that it turns out ok.
Leatherheads is the story of a 'pro football' player Dodge trying to keep his team from going broke and dispersing like many of the other teams. He attempts to do this with an WWI vet that is a bit of a legend and a 'keep you on your toes' reporter that is playing both sides a bit.
On to Leatherheads. For someone that hates watching sports, I have often
found myself enjoying sport themed movies. George Clooney is usually a
fun actor to watch and in this movie I felt myself torn between laughter
and feeling bad for the guy. I enjoyed it, we laughed many times all
through the film. There is even a great fight scene that I greatly
enjoyed that ranked right up there with my favorite fight scenes from
Bridgette Jones Diaries. Over all its a fun for the family little film,
plus who doesn't like the 20's and 30's?

Frantic

We watched this movie New Year's Eve, not that that information is important, just saying. Anyways Frantic is an earlier Harrison Ford film where he plays a Doctor that has traveled for Paris with his wife for some conference he is to lecture in. His wife goes missing, no one believes him that she has been abducted and he doesn't speak a word of french. As you can guess he finds help with a less than honest smuggler and he starts to unravel the mystery of why his wife was taken. Mild spoiler here, Harrison Ford does flash all his junk to the camera while trying to hide behind a tiny teddy bear. Yes it is as disturbing as you might imagine, also do try not to imagine it.
At first i was concerned that the plot of a Dr traveling to overseas with his wife, having her turn up missing and him wandering around trying to find out what is happening sounded a little too familiar, like the trailer for Unknown with Liam Neeson coming out Feb 18. Don't worry guys I looked into and I think for once a new movie coming out is Not a remake of an earlier film.
Over all the film wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. If it is on tv and your bored go for it, but if not your not really missing much.

A New Year, A New Goal and Queen Victoria

With the new year comes new resolutions. I'm not normally into making resolutions, because let us be truly honest resolutions are rarely ever kept anyways. I at the least am going to make a real effort into posting once a week and if not once a week at the least having 4 posts a month. That is the goal any way.
On to today's Movie, Queen Victoria. I have recently been into books and movies on Queens, so I decided to re watch this movie because I remember enjoying it in the theatre. I think Emily Blunt makes a rather stunning Victoria and that is always a good image for a queen. I must admit I have only read one actual book on Victoria that was written in the early 19oo's so I can't say much on how well the movie kept to actual events. Being a movie though we have to allow for some dramatic effect. I found the whole movie to good. I enjoyed the dialogue and the letters that Albert and Victoria sent to each other. Plus for that time period it is rather amazing that they had 9 living children together. I think my favorite part of the movie was the ending when it is talking about their lives together after the movie takes place, since as the movie title implies it is only about Victoria's early reign . Great movie i recommend it for all ages.
